Rewal
The foundation of Rewal (until 1945 - Rewahl) dates back to the 14th to 15th century when a robber tavern was built on the route connecting Gdańsk, Kołobrzeg and Kamień Pomorski, which was located near the present-day fishing harbour. Soon a small fishing settlement was established, the eastern part of which belonged to the Flemming family.
While Rewal appears on Lubinus' Great Map of the Pomeranian Duchy from 1618 as Raval, and the German name Revahl was recorded in the 17th century, the first summer visitors started arriving in the 1830s, when the town advertised itself with its warm sea baths. The first accommodation facilities did not begin to be built until the late 19th century.
In 1869, the first western line of the Gryfice Narrow-Gauge Railway was routed through Rewal, connecting Gryfice with Niechorze at the time, and from 1913 with Trzebiatow (now the Seaside Narrow-Gauge Railway on the line Gryfice - Pogorzelica, in the Rewal Municipality - Trzęsacz - Pogorzelica, passes through the restored stations in the summer).
Nowadays, Rewal is one of the most visited Baltic seaside resorts. It is here that one of the most beautiful stretches of the Polish coastline is located, characterised by great natural wealth, and awarded the Blue Flag certificate for the cleanest beaches in Europe.
